The widget exists for one reason: the moment you want to record is rarely the moment you want to go hunting for an app. One tap starts a new interview.
Transcriber offers a single widget, Record interview, described as Create a new interview by starting a recording session. It comes in the small size only.
On iPhone and iPad
- Press and hold an empty area of the Home Screen until the icons wiggle.
- Tap + in the corner.
- Search for Transcriber.
- Choose Record interview.
- Tap Add Widget, position it and tap Done.
On Mac
- Control-click the desktop and choose Edit Widgets, or click the date and time in the menu bar to open Notification Centre and choose Edit Widgets.
- Search for Transcriber.
- Choose Record interview and place it.
Using it
Tap or click the widget. Transcriber opens and goes straight into a new recording — you do not pass through the interview list on the way.
Because it starts recording immediately, put it somewhere you will not hit by accident. If you do trigger one unintentionally, cancel it; a discarded recording leaves nothing behind.
Worth knowing
The widget needs microphone permission just as the app does. If you have never recorded before, grant it once inside the app and the widget works from then on.
It always creates a new interview and never appends to an existing one.
If you would rather have recording start whenever you open the app at all, there is a setting for that — see creating a new recording.
